Getting ready for Christmas! Group Activities

Mark and I dropped Mom and Dad off at Heathrow a few hours ago, and it looks like their flight took off about half an hour late, but otherwise, everything seems to be ok. I'll post separately about their visit here, but I wanted to get this post up, so everyone can start commenting on it.

While Mom and Dad were here, we discussed the "Group Activity" ideas for the Christmas visit that Julie kicked off on Spark. We thought that it may be helpful if we listed them in one place, so I offered my blog (since I haven't been using it much!). I've added a list over on the side with some of the ideas we came up with, and I'll add the ones that have been discussed on Spark. Let me know if there are others and I can add them to the list! The name at the end is the person who suggested the original idea, or who is particularly interested in it, so is the person, I'm assuming, who has taken "ownership" of that idea.

I'm not quite sure how we want to decide what to do, or track who wants to do what, but I thought the first step might be to put them all in one place!

Fantastic idea, Jessica!

I love all the ideas.
My favorites (in no particular order) are
family walk-run
gattitown
painting pictures
picking pecans
flying kites
play at park
six flags (just wonder about driving times)

I like everything else too (especially Wii), I'm just not sure how "toddler friendly" they are. Which is not a dealbreaker, but that's how I think these days...

We HAVE to do the Walk-run. I think it would be a great family tradition to start now... do we need a gimmick or just a course?

Oh good, I'm glad you like it. I'll add the ones from Spark today - I just got distracted by other things yesterday...

What do you mean by gimmick? And we do need someone to take "ownership" of it - there's a question mark because I thought we all wanted it, but I wasn't sure who would be "in charge" of it...I was kind of hoping Jenny might be, since she's local and might be willing to stake out a course? :)

Gimmick... dressing as Santas? Running backwards? Matching T-shirts? Something to make it different from just our normal walks to the park or around the block...

Yes, I would also nominate Jenny to be the course manager.

I like the T-shirts idea - that's one of my favorite things about organized runs. I nominate T-shirts! And that's a second in favor of Jenny as course manager...I think that passes the motion...though I don't know if Jenny has even seen this yet, so maybe we should wait! :P

I looked up Six Flags, and it's open 12:00pm to 10:00pm all the days we're all together (except for Christmas Day, of course). Tickets are $25 and Google Maps says it's about an hour from Mom and Dad's to there. Is that too long?

Also add make Christmas ornaments. I think John and Naomi could really get into that!
