Ada at three months.

(Jenny may recognize this outfit!)

Ada has grown!

Her last official measurements were taken at her eight week check-up, which actually happened at ten weeks. At that point, she was 58.5 cm/23 inches long, 5.44 kg/12 lbs and her head was 38 cm/15 in.

That puts her at just above the 50th percentile for length and weight, and between the 25th and 50th for the size of her head. I guess she may have inherited her mom's disproportionately small head. Poor thing.

But that was two weeks, ago, eons, in baby growth terms! Based on my rough estimation (using the bathroom scales, since she's now too heavy for the kitchen scales), she's now up to just over 13 pounds. I haven't tried to update her length and head. I may try to get into one of the local baby clinics to get her officially measured in the next couple of weeks.

At that doctor visit she also had her first immunizations. She did just fine, as did I! The nurse was quite good and it was over very quickly. She cried for a bit, of course, but then realized she was hungry, so she ate and felt fine. (I think that may be her mom coming through again?!)

In the last couple of weeks, she's become very interested in her surroundings and has really started to interact with toys and books. She's started to notice even things like the blankets, and, unfortunately, our phones!

She's "talking" all the time and seems to be starting to express preferences. She'll make it known if she wants to move or is not happy with where she is. She still seems fairly impatient, even by baby standards, going from 0-60 pretty quickly. But fortunately she often comes back down again just as quickly, once she's been fed/changed/moved/etc.

We're starting to work on letting her play by herself more so she gets used to sometimes not having us immediately in her face. Not for long stretches, but just little bits here and there. Now that she's more interested in her toys and baby gym she doesn't seem to mind.

But of course mommy and daddy are still her favorite toys!

She still really enjoys "flying."

And bath time is still a favorite part of the day, too.

The bedtime routine is going well and normally she goes to sleep in the evening pretty easily. She is still waking up in the night to eat, usually twice. But she normally doesn't properly wake up, so she goes right back to sleep again once she's done.

The issue is when she sometimes does a poo at the 4:30ish feed and we have to do a diaper change. Though she normally is fine during changes, a night time sleepy diaper change is A Difficult Thing to Endure. You have to admit that's pretty understandable; I don't think I'd like someone taking my pyjamas off and wiping my bottom in the middle of the night when I'm half asleep either! But although it wakes her up and usually cries some, normally she'll settle back down again after not too long.

She is napping OK during the day, though usually in the sling or carrier. We're sticking to the the "no more than two hours of wakefulness" rule as much as possible, and that seems to work out well. And she has developed a pattern where after about 50-55 minutes after waking up she'll have her first yawn, and then at an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and thirty minutes she has her window for falling asleep. After that she still might fall asleep, but she gets a bit crankier as time goes on, until she passes the two hour mark and starts really getting overtired. Lately she has only been sleeping for about 40-45 minutes at a time, but although short, it still "counts," so I'll take it!

We're now trying to work on getting her to sleep in her bed more for naps. The sleep dude we're "following" ("Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child") says that the morning nap at 9am develops first, around this age. So while Mark is not working over the Easter break (Friday and Monday are bank holidays, so it's a four day weekend), we are working on the routine for helping her sleep in her bed for that nap, which I'll keep going with. It worked this morning, our first attempt. She still only slept for the "minimum" of about 45 minutes, but it was all in her bed, which is great.

All that said, she still sometimes falls asleep in unusual places.

She continues to enjoy tummy time. She has rolled from her back to her right side and hovered there for a bit, before rolling onto her back again. She's starting to push up more and more in addition to trying to push herself forward with her feet.

During this time, she's been to Brean on more visits.

She celebrated Dress Like a French Acrobat Day.

And of course in this period, she became an official citizen, which we documented in a previous post.

Though the whole photo shoot was not all smiles (is this the first officially blogged sad face?).

But overall, she's a pretty happy baby and she amazes us every day!

We didn't have real naps until about 4 months so it sounds like you are the right track!

That pouty face is just classic! She looks just like a 13-year old!
